If you have ever had a look at the jewelry I make, it won’t take long to realize that I oxidize pretty much everything I make in copper and brass. In the past I always used to use liver of sulfur chunks, dissolved in hot water. It worked, but was be a bit of a pain, especially if I was just doing one or two pieces at a time. There never would be a chunk that just the right size, so invariably I would have to smash them up. Just a bit of messy work.
Recently I came across XL gel. It is a pasty liquid that looks and smells a lot like crushed up liver of sulphur, and it makes life so much easier. I’ll just stir it up, then drop the stir stick into a jar of hot water, and it’s good to go. A little bit goes a long way. I use such a small amount each time, the little jar I have is going to last me forever. Too easy.
So, if you are looking to make your oxidizing life a little bit easier, give XL gel a shot. You won’t regret it.
